After a lifetime of abuse and neglect, teenaged telepath Ernest Fairchild was sent by his parents for psychiatric treatment to Dr. Leonard Price. Under Price's care, Ernie was subjected to an experimental dream probe designed to modify a patient's mental state. However, the probe increased Ernie's telepathic abilities to such a degree that he could no longer block out the thoughts of those around him. He now knew that his neighbors were aware of his abuse, but never lifted a finger to help him. Enraged, Ernie massacred his parents and most of his neighborhood before being captured. He was judged insane and committed to Clearview Mental Institute, again under the care of Dr. Price.
Years later the brilliant medical researcher Dr. Mary Young attempted to cure Ernie using her experimental Neurotech device, designed to purge a psychopath's killing urge. Like the dream probe, though, this experiment too went awry, transforming Ernie into an undead teen psychopath capable of reanimating and telepathically controlling the dead. Ernest Fairchild died that day, but Evil Ernie lived!
Together with his trusty sidekick Smiley (a sentient, psychotic button), Ernie now seeks out the forces attempting to control him, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.
