Placed on the corpse of Ernest Fairchild by a sympathetic nurse after the infamous (and fatal) Neurotech experiment, Smiley became possessed of the same arcane energies which re-animated Ernest into the teen zombie killing machine Evil Ernie. These energies granted Smiley sentience and a mischievous nature, and he's been Ernie's button buddy ever since. Smiley's mantra is now "Have a Psychotic Day," which bears a new kind of relevance in the world of the early 21st century.

Smiley has been featured on over two dozen licensed products, and adorns the tattooed skin of loyal Chaos! fiends across the globe.
